Talk:Extensions:Discussion

I'm still on earlier version and made some modifications so most of wiki syntax can be used with proper rendering inside of a Discussion thread.
Doing this can cause problems with the java script and I have thought of a way to make it bullet proof but my java script skills are lacking to make it work.
if you want to have further conversation about this drop me an email.
Hangs displaying "loading..."
I've been using the Extensions discussion on a new project, based on MW 1.15.1. In general the extension is working very well, thanks for the great work on it!
Unfortunately I'm running into an intermittent problem. Sometimes, under specific conditions I have not been able to determine, when I load a page that includes the discussion tag, I get "loading..." forever instead of the comments thread being displayed. So far the only thing I have been able to figure out is that this doesn't happen unless a sysop has blocked one or more comments in the thread.
Anybody else seeing this?
Thanks! ahooton
- Thanks for reporting this. I'll try to investigate, but I can start only in a couple of weeks (too busy before that).
- Do you have any tips on how to reproduce the problem? Perhaps, you can send me the structure of comments (with dates, so that I know in which order the comments had been added)?
- WikiSysop
- At this point I've been able to make it happen with an initial single comment that is then blocked by a sysop:
- Log in as a registered, email-confirmed non-sysop user
- Create the first comment in the Discussion extension on some page
- Log out, then login as a sysop
- Block the comment created above
- Log out
- Close the browser window (haven't fully determined if this is required yet or not)
- Launch the browser
- Log in as any user, sysop or not
- Go to the page with the blocked comment
- Note that the discussion extension just displays "loading..." forever
- At this point I've been able to make it happen with an initial single comment that is then blocked by a sysop:
- I've been able to get this to happen in both FF 3.x and IE 8.x.
- Thanks!
- ahooton
- Hmm, I followed these steps but couldn't reproduce the problem.
- What version of the extension are you using?
- Could you try purging the page?
- WikiSysop

Great extension
congratulation on making this great extension. Auto-pagination, ajax form, list of all recent comments, title-base search..... I can't think of any other alternative better than this. To my surprise, this extension hasn't been widely used in mediawiki community yet, but...then i see that it was released in Sept in 2009. It's just new but I'm sure that this has a great potential to be one of the most popular extension.
I'm going to use it in my own wiki.
- enable sysop to delete a message. It seems that deletion of whole message in database will affect other thread too, so i've removed REPLY button. The change the structure of a whole thread may be a big task...
- clear indication of the status of a post: Now it's quite unclear whether the post is hidden or blocked. I have to log out every time to confirm it.
- option to show latest comment on the top
- captcha in the future because registered users can also be a spammer...now, if i see a registered spammer, i will go to PhpmyAdmin to delete all of his entries
- banned words: like fxxk, shxt, "http://"
- show the <form> without having to click a link first...I don't know JS, not sure how to deal with it....
- Better CSS.... maybe it's okay to leave it to lazy users.
Anyway, your extension solves my problem. Thanks a lot! --118.173.151.143 09:26, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
